Assignments for May 11th - 15th
Phonics
Students should review their phonograms and rules. It would be useful for the students to practice their phonograms with someone (perhaps a younger sibling who is also learning phonics). The students should have a copy of the phonograms and rules, but they are also available here.
Students should carefully read and study
this poetic devices review.
This poetry assignment should be completed without the assistance of any
notes or review sheets.
Students will recite “The Noble Nature” on Tuesday, May 12, at 1:00 pm,
during their Zoom class.
Please have students copy the dictation “Catching the Contagion” in their best handwriting, as neatly and carefully as possible. They will be graded for neatness and accuracy. They should also complete the attached assignment. They will be graded for use of complete sentences.
Students should complete this assignment on loose leaf paper, in their best cursive, using a ruler for all lines. The assignment will be graded for neatness. Miss Eddy will hold a Zoom to discuss the grammar assignment on Tuesday, May 12, at 1:00 pm. Students have also been offered a grammar challenge, which they may complete if they desire. If a student solves it perfectly (without help!) there may be a prize.
Students should complete a composition on this topic. This should be written on loose leaf paper, in pen, double spaced, taking care to use their best penmanship. Students are encouraged to write a rough draft. Use of the poetic devices we have discussed is highly encouraged!
Students should trace a copy of the map using the tracing paper which was sent
home. Then they should use the graphite paper, also sent home, to transfer their
traced map to a fresh sheet of paper – either printer paper or a page from their
art sketchbook. Careful attention should be paid to rivers, coastlines, and city
locations. Points will be awarded based on neatness and accuracy. A thorough
explanation of the assignment, as well as a copy of the map,
can be found here.
Students should continue to observe their backyard ecosystem. Miss Eddy has posted a page with resources to guide a challenge for the students’ nature journals. While this challenge is optional, it is designed to help the students focus their observations, so that they may have a more complete understanding of their own ecosystem. Students are strongly encouraged to use the resources given.
Students should use these instructions to complete their origami projects. Finished origami should be handed in with other student work next week, Monday, May 18. Miss Eddy has also prepared these origami challenges which the students may complete if they feel adventurous, which include a popular game played with certain origami pieces.
