Assignments for March 17th - 20th
Students should review the "Latin and Greek Roots" pages of their Phonics Logbook, especially focusing on the meanings of the prefixes found on page B34.
Latin Roots Quiz - Available now! Complete any time on Monday, March 23rd (only 10 prefixes included, 5-10 minutes to complete).
Students should read this poem, and the notes about it, carefully. They should copy the poem on a loose leaf sheet of paper, in pen, taking care to use their best penmanship. If students have any questions, Miss Eddy will have a Zoom conference on Friday, March 20; further details on that conference (time, etc.) will be sent by email. Parents may always send questions to Miss Eddy at her school email.
Please have students copy
this dictation before Monday, March 23. Once they have completed the
dictation, they should answer the thought question below. (This will be easier
if the student has already written the poem for the week.)
Students should complete this grammar exercise by Monday, March 23. They are welcome to use their grammar resources (their white grammar books, the parsing orders, and the chart) as necessary.
Students should continue to read Outlaws of Ravenhurst aloud. Chapter 16: Escape should be finished, and students prepared for a quiz on the chapter. Outlaws Ch. 16 Quiz is ready! Click the link to take it now!
History
Miss Eddy will send home geography assignments (maps to be studied, with questions about map-reading skills) on Monday, March 23. Students will be given notes on the period which we are covering in history. Miss Eddy will offer a Zoom class to accompany the notes. Details on that class will be emailed shortly.
For home study (see explanation here), students should observe an ecosystem that is easy to access near their home - in the backyard, for instance. In their nature journals, students should record observations of the biotic and abiotic factors of the environment.
This will be an ongoing assignment - students should work at their records in their journals for at least a short time every day. Whenever a student adds to their journal, they should mark the date and time of their observations. The assignment will only be collected when we return to school at the end of the home-study period.
Students were given a drawing of an apple. They should draw a replica of this apple, and color it using their colored pencils. They should focus on shading, using the textural techniques we discussed in class, and blending color to create shadows and highlights. They may make a few attempts at this project if they desire, but the finished version should be turned in on Monday, March 23.

Assignments for March 23rd - 27th
Students should review the "Latin and Greek Roots" pages of
their Phonics Logbook, especially focusing on the meanings of the roots found on
page B35.
The quiz on the Latin and Greek roots
is available now, and should be taken before the end of the day on Friday, March
27th. (This quiz begins with “ann-, enn-” and ends with “mot-, mob-”.)
Students should read this poem carefully. They should copy the poem on a loose leaf sheet of paper, in pen, taking care to use their best penmanship. Miss Eddy will have a Zoom conference on Wednesday, March 25 to discuss the poem; further details on that conference (time, etc.) will be sent by email.
Please have students copy this dictation by Friday, March 27.
Students should review nouns in their white grammar book, especially considering case. Students should read pgs. 56-64 carefully to review. Miss Eddy will have a Zoom class on Wednesday, March 25 to discuss the grammar concepts for the week.
Students should complete this online exercise after the Zoom class. This will aid them in completing their grammar assignment for the week, which must be completed by Friday, March 27. They are welcome to use their grammar resources (their white grammar books, the parsing orders, and the chart) as necessary, and should come to the Zoom class prepared to ask any questions they might have.
Students should continue to read Outlaws of Ravenhurst aloud. Students should read pages 166-187, and be prepared for a quiz. This quiz is available online now, and should be taken by the end of the day on Friday, March 27th.
Miss Eddy sent home a geography assignment titled England A.D. 800. This assignment will be due Friday, March 27. Students will be given notes on the period which we are covering in history. Miss Eddy will offer a Zoom class to accompany the notes on Thursday, March 26. Details regarding the time of the Zoom class will be emailed shortly.
For home study (see explanation here), students should
observe an ecosystem that is easy to access near their home - in the backyard,
for instance. In their nature journals, students should record observations of
the biotic and abiotic factors of the environment.
This will be an ongoing assignment - students should work at their records in
their journals for at least a short time every day. Whenever a student adds to
their journal, they should mark the date and time of their observations. The
assignment will only be collected when we return to school at the end of the
home-study period.
Students were given a picture of a holy card, which shows
the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Most Chaste
Heart of St. Joseph. They should replicate these hearts as they are arranged on
the holy card. The student drawing should be large enough to sufficiently fill a
page of their art sketchbook – this will mean they should double the size of the
image. These hearts should be drawn in pencil, and colored using their colored
pencils.
Students should carefully preserve the proportions of the hearts as they enlarge
them. They should focus on shading, using the textural techniques we discussed
in class, and blending color to create shadows and highlights.
When the project is completed, the hearts will be surrounded by a border, and
text will be added (“All for Jesus, All through Mary, All after thine example, O
Patriarch, St. Joseph”). However, these steps (border and text) will be separate
phases of the project. This first phase, the drawing and coloring of the hearts,
will be due on Wednesday, April 1.
Assignments for March 30th - April 3rd
Phonics
Students should review their phonograms and rules. There will not be a quiz this week; however, it would be useful for the students to practice their phonograms with someone (perhaps a younger sibling who is also learning phonics). The students should have a copy of the phonograms and rules, but they are also available here.
Poetry
Students should read
this poem carefully. They should copy the poem on a loose leaf sheet of
paper, in pen, taking care to use their best penmanship. Miss Eddy will have a
Zoom conference on Wednesday, April 1 to discuss the poem; further details on
that conference will be sent by email.
Students should also be prepared to recite “Bells” by Thomas Traherne. This
recitation will also take place Wednesday, April 1, in a Zoom. Details will be
emailed shortly.
Dictation
Please have students copy this dictation, “A Woodcarver”. Students should also copy this dictation (on the same sheet as "A Woodcarver"), “The Work of a Town”, and answer the accompanying thought questions. Both dictations should be completed by Monday, April 6.
Grammar
Students should continue to review noun case in their white grammar book, especially considering Declension.
Students should read pg. 66 carefully to review.
Students should also review the parsing of nouns by reading pgs. 68-69. Miss Eddy will have a Zoom class on Tuesday, March 31 to discuss the grammar concepts for the week.
Students should complete this online exercise on declension after the Zoom class.
A brief quiz on the parsing of nouns should be taken on Wednesday, April 1. This will aid them in completing their grammar assignment for the week, which must be completed by Monday, April 6.
Students should do this assignment without their parsing sheets (they may use their white grammar book, if necessary, but it would be better if they attempted to complete the assignment without it) and should come to the Zoom class prepared to ask any questions they might have.
Literature
Students should continue to read Outlaws of Ravenhurst aloud. Students should read pages 188-205, and be prepared for a quiz, which will take place on Friday, April 3.
History
Students will be given notes on the period which we are covering in history. Miss Eddy will offer a Zoom class to accompany the notes on Thursday, April 2. Details regarding the Zoom class will be emailed shortly.

However, these steps (border and text) will be separate phases of the project. This first phase, the drawing and coloring of the hearts, must be finished by Wednesday, April 1, so that students may begin the second phase, which is the lettering.
After the students have completed the first phase, they will begin the second
phase, which will be the writing of the text: “All for Jesus, All through Mary,
All after thine example, O Patriarch, St. Joseph”. Students must write these
words above each respective heart, in versals. Several versal alphabets were
sent home with this week’s homework packet; students may choose any one of them.
Students are encouraged to practice writing on a separate sheet of paper,
ensuring that they will have enough space on their final project to fit all of
the words and a border.
Students should have completed this phase of the project by Monday, April 6th.
