Tuesday: Practice writing equivalent fractions.

Homework:  Do WB pg. 99, using multiplication to complete.

Wednesday: Finding Factors of numbers pgs. 276-277. Read over these pages.

Factors are the two numbers multiplied together to get the product or answer.

Example:  Factors of 18: [1, 18, 2, 9, 3, 6].

Now put them in order. [1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18].

These are the factors of 18.

Thursday: Read pg. 277 again on finding the GCF or greatest common factor of two or more numbers.

First find the factors of each number listed. Then, find the biggest number they BOTH have in common. This is the GCF.

Example:  8 and 12.

Factors of 8 are [1, 2, 4, 8].

Factors of 12 are [1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12].

What is the biggest number that they BOTH SHARE?  You are right!!!! It is 4!!

4 is the GCF.

Practice finding the GCF for #9-19 on pg. 277. Do on scrap paper. You do NOT need to turn this in.

4th Grade Lessons for Week of May 4th to May 8th

Religion:

Read the pages on “Prayer”, pgs. 226-229 and go over these pages with one of your parents. It is all about prayer and the kinds of prayer as well as distractions in prayer. There are 15 questions that you will have to complete for the following week (May 18th) do not try to answer these questions without reading the material first.

Math:

Turn in WB pg. 101 and WB pg. 102 and 18 problems on comparing fractions with like denominators on Monday, May 11.

Monday:

Read pgs. 278-279 on putting fractions into lowest terms. Practice putting fractions into lowest terms on pg. 279, numbers 16-39. This is only practice and does not need to be turned in.

Tuesday:

Look over pgs. 278-279 again and complete WB pg. 101.

Wednesday:

Read pgs. 280-281 on Mixed numbers. Remember that a mixed number is simply a whole number and a fraction put together. Ex. 3 ¾ and is read, three and three-fourths. Do. WB pg. 102

Make sure you go over the sections on page 281 as well.

Thursday:

Read pgs. 282-283 on comparing fractions. When we compare fractions we try to decide which fraction is bigger. We first look at the denominator. If the denominators are the same number, then we look at the numerators. Whichever fraction has the larger numerator is the bigger fraction. (This is only true when the denominators are the same!!!) Do the 18 problems on comparing fractions with like denominators.

Friday:

Read over pgs. 282-283 again. We will be talking about comparing fractions that DO NOT have like denominators.   (See my notes for more explanation.)

We cannot compare two things that are different, like an apple and an orange. We also cannot compare fractions that DO NOT have denominators that are the same.

What do we do? Well, when this happens, we have to make one of them an equivalent fraction to the other.

Ex: If I am wondering if 3/5 or 3/10 is bigger, I first must find an equivalent fraction for 3/5 that has a denominator of 10.

How do I go from 5 to 10? Yes, multiply by 2. Well, whatever you do to the denominator you must do to the numerator. So 3/5 is equal to 6/10 because we multiplied 5 times 2 to get 10 so I also multiplied 3 times 2 to get 6 or 6/10.

Now I can compare the two fractions as 6/10 and 3/10. Which one is bigger? Yes, 6/10 which is the same as 3/5.

We will Zoom this class on Friday.

Grammar:

Complete the 5 sentences on the grammar handout. Analyze, diagram, and parse the sentences. Turn in this assignment on Monday, May 11.

Monday:

Review how to diagram simple sentences that have compound subjects, verbs, DO’s, PA’s, or PN’s.

Remember, you have to make a bunkbed for them. Just because there are compound subjects or verbs, DOES NOT make the sentence compound. Be careful. Do sentence #1 on your grammar sheet.

Tuesday: ---Friday:

Keep working on your sentences and reviewing parsing orders and how to diagram compounds within a SIMPLE sentence.

Literature:

Read pgs. 85-116 in “Snow Treasure” Try to pick out the important things that happened in the story. See if you can tell your mom or dad what happened in the story orally. Don’t write it down, just tell them.
