Assignments for March 18th-20th – DUE Monday, March 23rd

We will be reviewing chapter 5 for this week and next. Each of your assignments given will be for the Written Exercises in the chapter.

You are expected to write the problem and show ALL of your work, every step. You will not be given any credit for just an answer. Your assignments are the following:

5-3 Solving Equations with Addition and Subtraction p.151 #1-35 odd
5-4 Solving Equations with Multiplication and Division p.154 #1-35 odd

5-5 Using Several Transformations p. 157 #7-41 odd
5-6 Equivalent Inequalities p.161 #1-47 odd (remember to reverse the inequality sign when you multiply or divide by a negative number)
5-7 Solving Inequalities by Several Transformations p. 165 #1-35 odd

Assignments (3/30-4/1)) – DUE Monday, April 6th

Extra Practice p. 510 #13-73 all (You are not expected to do this assignment all in one sitting, break it up into smaller sections as you need. Staple the pages of this assignment together when you are finished.)

We will be reviewing some material that was learned previously this year, in an effort to make sure your understanding of these concepts is solid as you move forward into 9th grade.

Please remember you are expected to write the problem and show ALL of your work, every step. This means to show your computation. This is a time you should not be rushed doing your assignments. You should take your time and be neater with your work. Pay attention to the details, they really do matter!

Read p. 79-81, pay close attention to the information in the blue boxes.

Assignment - p. 82, #5-45 odd

3-4 Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbers

Read p. 84, again note the information in the blue box.

13-1 Polynomial Expressions

Read p. 476 and 477

Assignment - p. 477 #1-14 all (skip #9 and #10)

13-2 Adding and Subtracting Polynomials

Read p. 479-480

Assignment - p. 480 #1-16 all

*Remember to use the distributive property to multiply variables and numbers that are right next to the parenthesis.

And write your answers in standard form (powers of the variable decrease from left to right)

Example 2x – 3(2x + 4)

Distribute the -3 first and multiply it times the (2x + 4)

The problem would then be 2x - 6x - 12

Combine like terms for final answer -4x - 12
